Shooting and Production
First Class Notes 1/17/13
Public Access - Video very poor and audio quality. The budget is low and there aren't any extra staff to help. Was it live and were there any scripts? The cameras were locked in place and did not zoom. Priority is not effective communication. Many areas that can be improved.
CCSU Production - Central Educator. Taped in studio, full crew and edited post production. Open to introduce, audio, visuals that distract. How cuts to different cameras used to facilitate. Talent role in focusing on guests. Are the lower thirds supporting the production. Think visually what the camera is seeing and as a talent you can help the director and move the production along. Make sure you don't remind a view that they are viewing. Adding an over-the-shoulder shot helps a person become involved.
Regional Affiliate - News package short clip 2:00 long. Make an announcement on a physics equipment. What is the focus? What is the message? Talking heads, interviews are there distracting elements? Door and audio poor in first clip. The reporter needed to stand closer to the camera. The white paper in her hand was not needed. Have a vision, script and use it to covey a message.
Network - Charlie Rose Show, Brian series..Consciousness. Quality difference. Visual elements and do they match? Listen to voice overlap. Watch cameras and transitions. The audio under the announcer is effective because portrays action and interest rather that a still, smiling head. Articulation and pausing all convey your message.
